What is a martingale collar and why is it important

A martingale collar is a gentle, safety-focused dog collar designed to give you better control without choking your dog. It has two loops: a larger loop that goes around the dog’s neck and a smaller control loop that tightens just enough when the leash is pulled. When the dog relaxes, the collar loosens again.

Unlike traditional flat collars, a martingale is especially helpful for dogs with narrow heads (like sighthounds) or dogs that tend to back out of collars, because it tightens only to a preset limit and won’t slip off. Unlike choke chains, it cannot over-tighten, making it a safer and more humane option for everyday walks and training.
